Substrate Assessment

The surface tells you what the water must do.

Every façade material responds differently to pressure and temperature.

Before a single pump is primed, our senior technicians conduct a substrate classification survey across your entire building envelope. Mossy podium tile, diesel-stained loading bay concrete, and algae-streaked curtain wall panels each demand calibrated responses — the wrong pressure on aged granite cladding causes irreversible spalling. We document substrate class, contamination depth, and joint integrity before treatment begins.

Visual survey
Systematic elevation-by-elevation photography documenting contamination type, density, and distribution pattern.
Core sampling
Micro-core extraction at representative points to determine contamination depth below surface oxidation layer.
Classification report
Written substrate classification delivered to property manager before works commence — becomes part of the permanent building record.

Chemical Selection

Water alone is a blunt instrument.

The chemistry determines what the pressure can reach.

Diesel exhaust particulate embedded in loading bay concrete requires alkaline pre-treatment to break the hydrocarbon bond before water can flush it clean. Biological growth — the green-black algae endemic to Hong Kong's subtropical humidity — responds to biocidal pre-soak that kills at root depth, preventing re-colonisation within weeks. We maintain a closed chemical register, documented per project, and all discharge is pH-neutralised before entering the drainage system.

Contamination typing
Laboratory identification of dominant contaminant class — biological, hydrocarbon, mineral, or composite — determines treatment chemistry.
Pre-treatment soak
Targeted biocidal or alkaline pre-treatment applied at measured dwell time prior to pressure application.
Discharge management
Runoff collected, pH-neutralised, and discharged in compliance with WPCO Cap. 358 — documented per shift.

Environmental Compliance

Your building sits inside a regulatory framework.

Non-compliant discharge is your liability, not ours.

Hong Kong's Water Pollution Control Ordinance places legal responsibility for wastewater discharge on the site owner. Contractors who flush untreated runoff into storm drains expose property managers to prosecution. Blast operates as an EPD-registered contractor — every project generates a discharge compliance certificate issued to the property manager for filing with the building's compliance record. We treat compliance documentation with the same rigour as the physical works.

EPD registration
Registered under the Environmental Protection Department as a specialist wastewater treatment contractor.
On-site containment
Portable bunding and vacuum recovery systems contain all runoff at source — zero uncontrolled discharge.
Certificate issuance
Discharge compliance certificate issued per project, formatted for Buildings Department and EPD filing requirements.

Heritage Surface Protocols

Pre-war granite does not forgive improvisation.

Irreversible surface damage voids insurance and destroys value.

Hong Kong's pre-war commercial stock — the granite-faced banking halls and arcaded shophouses of Central and Sheung Wan — requires pressure settings below 800 PSI, cold water application, and manual agitation with pH-neutral detergents. Our heritage protocol is documented, signed off by the property manager before works commence, and carried out by operatives with specific heritage-surface certification. We have restored surfaces that other contractors have damaged. We do not work from a single standard operating procedure applied to every building.

Heritage classification
Grade I / II / III AAB classification review and consultation with Antiquities and Monuments Office where required.
Reduced-pressure protocol
Cold water application at ≤800 PSI with manual agitation — no thermal shock to aged mortar joints or patinated stone surfaces.
Post-works survey
Photographic elevation survey post-treatment with written confirmation of zero surface damage — provided to property manager and insurer.
